The NYCLU's Project on Military Recruitment and Students' Rights seeks to give students, families, educators, and advocates the tools to defend their rights against intrusive military recruiting.
Why is this necessary? The military has launched an aggressive campaign to recruit students to fill the ranks of the armed services. And since some recent laws have gone into effect, many educators, students and parents have complained that recruiters are using heavy-handed tactics to harass students, violate students’ privacy rights, and target poor students and students of color.
But students and parents do have the right to limit the information the military has about them and to report abuses if they happen. This site is intended to provide resources for students, parents and teachers who want to exercise those rights.
